Took an early morning drive to a local cars & coffee.
It was a chilly 30 degrees when I started, but warmed up later in the day.

Found a small puddle of coolant from a hose I had not tightened up enough a few weeks ago, easily fixed with a screwdriver.

Unseasonably comfortable temperatures in Chicagoland, so out for a nice drive along the lakefront today with a few friends.

Went out for a little drive, and while signaling for a right hand turn heard a snap and the lever would not stay in position.

Looks like i have a new project to figure out how to replace the turn signal switch..

Thanks Dan..

Appreciate it. Right now I've got my usual initial fear of opening things up and not being able to put it back together, but I'll be ordering up a new part and digging in shortly.
I'll have pictures as I go.

Doing a ground-up rebuild. Rebuilding the suspension, pulled the front crossmember, cleaned and painted everything. New bushings, bearings, ball-joints, shocks, seals, and painted everything. I spent over 50 years building cars as a hobby and business, and now that I am retired I am working on a car I purchased almost 40 years ago in 1981. The 1985 Ford 2.3 4-cylinder is built, the A4LD overdrive is rebuilt, new 14" x 5" wide steel wheels have new tires, and the steering has been rebuilt, and is ready to reassemble. I'll post pictures later. The seat frames have been rebuilt, new foam purchased along with tan covers. A 16 gallon tank has bee recessed 3" into the trunk floor, and I fitted the factory filler to it.. The battery was relocated to the trunk right rear fender well for better weight distribution due to the roughly 100 pounds heavier motor...but it makes a lot more torque at much lower RPM. With a lock-up converter and .75 overdrive plus taller driving tires, I hope for well over 30 MPG at 75 MPH. I am an ASE mechanic with much engine building experience, so even though this is my first 4 cylinder, I have done several things to help dependability, HP, Torque, and economy. If all goes as planned I'll have the suspension done and flip the body on its side in January. I have the wood necessary to make a TILT to put the body on her side for undercarriage work. However, at 77 and having problems that make me susceptible to COVID, who knows.

I got the turn signal mechanism all put back together and back in the car.

I had no idea the turn signals were supposed to be self canceling. The adjuster was not in the correct location originally, and it now works as it should.

Took a little fiddling to get the steering column cover aligned correctly so the signals work without hitting the edges. As usual I tightened things up before realizing and had to take some of it apart again to adjust.

I also made a blanking cover to fill in the hole where the overdrive lever would be. I have always hated having that open.

I rewarded myself with a little drive around the neighborhood to test everything out, and discovered a few more local murals..

I'm proud of you Ernesto..... the "plug" looks nice and fills the hole well.

That mural is some wild painting... Great artist to fit in all those lines.

Did my ten mile drive since several weeks due to snow and salt. Clutch master cylinder issue while riding the clutch backing into my garage is still an issue. I’ll fix that springtime. Fifteen years ago White Post, VA did a lifetime rebuild that I will use. The slave cyl. I recently replaced was not the problem but at least I have the Mighty Vac to assist in bleeding.
My goober Fiberglass repair on the hardtop corner can be readily seen. Aesthetically pleasing, no. Functional, yes! I was pushed for time fixing it before temperatures fell below 60°.

So, it looks like you’ve got a motorcycle or your Mini to use.. winking smiley We only got a dusting down here in the middle of the state, but there’s still too much salt on the roads to go out in the old cars. Maybe in a few more weeks...
