All,

I know we beat this to death sometimes, but I can't help it, I enjoy the
topic. There are several cars on e-Pay right now, and the one that caught my
eye is the car with the Alpine parts car out of New Jersey. (Item number:
260256780525) and link below if it will work:

In previous discussions we have talked about when a car is too far gone....I
remember a little red car sitting in the snow up north a few months back, and
the opinions were across the board about whether or not it was
"savable"....and I seem to remember taking the position that it was definitely
capable of being saved and we should keep them on the road....well....now I am
retracting that logic on this car. It seems clear to me that its definitely a
real Tiger, and it has literally rotted away to nothing left. And between that
and the wreck, I don't see much left to work with. At least there are some
good parts... like inner fenders and drivetrain...some good interior bits that
fortunately the owner keep out of the weather....but I cannot imagine the body
being remotely usable, even for the most dedicated to optimism.

I'm pretty sure that this one is so thin, that if you put a rope on it and
tried to drag it out of the mud, it would pull apart into pieces the size of
suitcases.

Cullen

If one had more tools and time than money I still say it is doable. But, you
have to be the kind of guy who likes to tinker - a lot!

You know, it seems if you buy replacement panels from a reputable Tiger
supplier then you are hailed as a savior for the marquee. If you adapt the
same parts from an Alpine you run the risk of being accused of creating a
fraud. Like most things in life it seems money buys (fill in the blank).
I'll draw the line here, if the Toploader is rusted out from contact with
the earth then even I have a limit. There probably isn't too much value
beyond the current $2,500 bid. It will be interesting to see what it goes
for. While everyone is watching Tiger prices based on "Get Smart," it may
be basket cases like this that draw a decent number relative to condition
that ultimately drives the upper end of the Tiger value.

The passenger door doesn't look too bad. It's a starting point;-)

I think this car could be saved, would take a lot of time and money but it
could be saved.
There not making them anymore so we need to look hard and long before we send
one to the crusher. I may be optimistic here but if somebody just bought this
Tiger and stored it inside that would be a starting point.

I see nothing wrong with using Alpine panels to help restore a Tiger, it's
when it happens the other way around is were I take exception. To put Tiger
parts on an Alpine is still an Alpine. If you swapped out an Alpine front
end on a Tiger I think that is fine, you could change out a lot of panels on
the Tiger and it still could receive a good TAC.

The thing that struck me is the line about" If the car does not reach my low
reserve, Ill let it sit where it is and rust-in-peace. How many Tigers are
out there just rusting away because someone has the same attitude??

As the Tiger community we all need to step up the effort to try and save as
many Tigers as possible. They are endangered now but for how long?? One day
they will because extinct.

I agree, technically it could be saved. If a person wanted to get a donor
Alpine and replace the non-tiger specific sheet metal, i.e. the rocker panels,
the exterior fenders, the floor pans, (save the exhaust cutouts), and the
trunk pan, (save the spare tire mount)...then it could be resurrected. We
haven't seen it in person, but I suppose the frame itself could be
disintegrated....but, I do agree that honestly, anything is fixable.

I noticed the line about letting it sit where it is and rust in peace. I
didn't really agree with that either, but I am always concerned that this
belongs to someone on the list...dont want to offend anyone, at least not too
bad. That's like the carnival red car and the BRG car on ebay now....I figured
those belong to someone who is involved like the rest of us...maybe not?
