After many years of missed opportunity I acquired an original air cleaner
for my Mk1. Is the correct colour hammerloid silver and what connects to the
two tubes on bottom plate? Thanks, Gary B9472283

Breather hose to the oil cap on one side, and a tube to the heat chamber on
the exhaust manifold for the hot air choke on the other side.

Hammertone gray is the color. If you need to paint yours; I
recommend you practice with this paint on some scrap metal first. The
metal needs to be warm and stay warm while painting and drying to get that
hammertone finish. I believe the metal needs to be around 80 degrees F to
get a good hammertone texture. You will need to experiment with
temperature to get the same texture as the original Hammertone finish.
The drivers side tube connects to the left side valve cover breather
cap; this is the larger diameter tube.
The tube on the passenger side connects to the stock hot air pipe
system to the automatic choke on the carb. It consists of a rubber hose to
a metal tube that goes into a hole at the bottom of the hot air stack which
is cast into the stock right exhaust manifold. Another metal tube goes
from the hole at the top of the hot air stack to a fitting that screws onto
the choke assembly at the carb.

Hi Ron,
I believe that some of the air cleaner housings were chromed as part of the
'engine dress-up' option. I looked into trying to duplicate the original
appearance and texture and finally elected to just get the thing chromed.
regards
Bob

Bob and Ron,
The Tiger LAT 2 option "Dress-up Kit" consisted of polished aluminum
"TIGER" rocker arm covers, chrome dip stick, chrome radiator cap, chrome
oil filler cap and a chrome TOP air cleaner lid. The bottom remained the
stock Hammertone.
This can be seen in the LAT section of TigersUnited.com, along with a
lot of other stuff:

Thanks for the information. I had enough trouble finding this air cleaner so
it will not get chrome plated. Now I need a oil filler cap with a port tube
to attach to bottom plate. Nothing in the catalogues.. Regards, Gary

Most of the Mustang catalogs do list a push on closed system oil
filler cap with a straight tube that will work on your Tiger. They are not
the same as the original which has a 90 degree bent tube and many of them
are chrome but some are painted black.
Some of the Mustang oil filler caps have the 90 degree bend but the
bend is vertical instead of horizontal as on the Tiger. I have no idea
whether or not you can change the position of the tube on those caps.
The closest Ford part number I have found for the oil filler cap part is
C4TZ-6766-?; I do not know the exact Ford number for the original Tiger
part.

You can change the position of the 90 degree bend, and it is still not
like the original, as the chrome unit is skinnier than the original.
