I have found that I can fit the new Alpine into our garage if I turn it
sideways and push it up against the rear wall. Moss Motors carries these
neat "wheelie deelies" which are low to the ground with four swivle wheels
on each corner. The idea is that you put them under the wheels of car so
that you can move it around like that. Unfortunately, they want $200 per
pair.
Any suggestions on other sources? I presume you get what you pay for and
cheaper ones might not last very long under the weight of the car.
If I use a strong enough, big enough floor jack, well-placed, is it
possible to move the car sideways? I know I could never do that with my
little floor jack.
Thanks.
Jay

I slide all my cars around in the garage with a 3 ton floorjack....and it
only cost me $65 and I can use it for a host of other projects!! Put it
under the pumpkin ...or (with a rubber pad on top of the swivel) under the
front suspension frame.

I use a 3 ton floor jack as well. Unless the casters on the "wheelie deelies"
are very good, they are going to bind up and jam on every little obstacle, since
each caster is carrying 150 to 200 lbs. It might be interesting to go to a
caster supply place and find out what size caster they recommend for that kind
of load...

Hi Jay , Harbor Freight has them for $74.99 for 2 and $129.00 for four. A
friend of mine made his own out of 2 by 4s and some heavy casters. But I
don't trust my carpentry skills that much. %0)

My local HD (or is it HQ?), the giant home center, had several types of
really heavy duty casters available for a whole lot less than that.
Make the platforms out of a few layers of 3/4" plywood, bolt the casters
onto the bottoms, and you're done. I've been thinking about that
myself, but there's barely room for my car to move in my 2 car garage.
Four kids worth of toys (5 if you count me) plus mower, snow blower,
etc. If I ever get a shed, then I'll try it.

Jay:
Glad to hear that the Alpine had arrive safely at your place.
For $400 for two pair of wheelies you could probably buy: a flux wire Mig
welder, a whole box of heavy duty casters, 40 lbs. of scrap metal and have
enough left over to pay for a few lessons on how to weld.
Godspeed
