The corner pads on my newly restored hardtop left ugly black marks on the
paint. How do I remove the marks (polishing compound didn't do the trick)
and how do I protect the paint from further damage?

Jim,
I suggest picking up some static cling vinyl, similar to what is used for
the Meat Ball signs on the side of race cars.
Good Luck, Jan ...

Can't help you on removing the black marks, but 3M makes a great tape
that you can cut to fit your hard top pattern and stick to your auto
body. It's standard on all new Vette convertables. I have a sample and
I've seen it on cars and it works, and will not damage your paint. Check
your local GM/Chevy dealer...

Jim,
One of my fellow workers has several restored Corvets. He has a clear
plastic sheet under the hardtop rubber. He says it is available from Corvet
supply dealers. Of course you are not allowed to use any General motors
product (even aftermarket) on a Tiger, else your Tiger will get infected
and die.

Jim,

When I had a cap installed on my new Sapphire Blue "Ford" pickup they lined
the rails and the tailgate with a clear "tape".

Also, now I know what is wrong with my Tiger...It has the center carb from
a Corvette tri-power installed by PO. ;-)

Darrell Mountjoy is using the same sort of stuff that he had at home for his
'57 T-birds--thus it IS available with the "appropriate" lineage.
