Is there any difference between an Alpine bumper and a Tiger bumper? Are
the overriders and mounting brackets the same? Specifically the rear
bumper. I call this a stupid question because I'm fairly certain there is
no difference but the question has come up.

Hello Frank, front bumpers are the same, so as in Alpine and Tiger. You
listed it as a Tiger which was an Alpine first and modified with the V8.
Alvin (TopDogRover) I'll be in Vegas in April.

Frank,
There is a significant difference. The Alpine bumpers are bolted to
Alpines, and the Tiger bumper are on Tigers. (
If they are off the car, you will not find any differences. BUT there
ARE differences between left and right side brackets, so mark them
before removal, or your bumpers may be at a strange angle.

Some of the bumper confusion may be caused by the
US made Chrysler replacement bumpers. They have
more rounded ends than the more tapered British made
bumpers. You'll see what I mean it you can put two
side by side.
Of course these bumpers were decoration only.
The bumper overriders have to be a sadistic joke. And
the rear mounting nuts being part of a 'C' that the
gas pipes go through, scares me.

Dave,
I see no cause for fear about the nearness of the rear mounting nuts to
the gas(oline?) pipes. The SU fuel joints and seals are just over the muffler.
Besides, these bumpers and overriders are NOT merely for decoration, or
a sadistic joke.
They are part of two seperate mandatory requirements:
1) The US law has required "bumpers" since late 1949, when they first
put them on the MG-TC. Turn signals to, and those cute little flag arms
were verbotten.
2) They supply a steady source of income to the poor dealers and
mechanics replacing them from the mearest tap. Would you want to deprive
an honest workman his livelihood? Especially when he has his wife
driving the big sedan all around town to park in front or back of a
Sunbeam and give it a gentle "tap". Put the whole family in the poor house.
Now that you know the reality of it, please take back your anti-social
remarks. {9->

If I made an anti-social comment, I was unaware of it.
But I'll take it back if anyone is offended. But being from
a conservative background, a socialist is almost a
(dare I say the C word) Communist. Since the law about
bumpers was changed around 1949, wasn't that the year
that fluoridation of drinking water started. Fluoridation as
my teachers said, was just another Communist plot to
undermine the moral fiber of America. Jack D Ripper
in Dr. Strangelove had it right about guarding the
purity of your precious bodily fluids. Drink grain
alcohol only.
Any of anyone on this list believes this is my mindset,
I can send some names to contact the John Birch Society.
Just trying to inject some humor.

I was just kidding with the seller of the bumpers, the brackets were the only
difference I knew of until the Chrysler take over. The extra ones I have,
before I put them away I sprayed them with under coating the oil type so that
I can take it off if I had to.
Alvin (TopDogRover) does anyone know of a person in or near the San Jose area
with a green Tiger (not British Racing Green) kind of a dark green Metallic?
One more thing does anyone have a copy of an article in Hot Rod magazine with
a yellow Tiger with a 351 Porsche flared fenders?
