Looking into this rivet foolishness a bit further, I've found that Michigan
law does indeed prohibit removal of the VIN tag for any reason. The guy I
talked to at the Secratary of State office stopped short of advising me to
get a new , official looking Michigan issued VIN sticker attached to my
door post, but I believe that to be 100% legal I should have one.
