Yup,
Just that easy Paul. Instead I mounted both shoes leaving the
forward shoe post off. Then pulling that shoe out of the adjuster
and towards the other shoe, was able to make the spring hook to the
"proper" slots (as shown in the manual), and then pulling the shoe
back to its seated position in the adjuster slot.

Can't understand why the PO or his mechanic could or would stretch
those springs to the further (wrong) slot. A definite feat that
takes muscles and patients.
