I would appreciate suggestions for the best places to look for original paint
remnants in a Tiger. Not only would I like to be successful finding a remnant
but I'm also hoping to avoid disturbing panels etc to access spaces that were
never painted in the first place. Thanks for any assistance.

That mostly depends on how thorough any re-painting done previously was. You
should look inside the heater box or up under the dash. Factory paint jobs went
under the VIN plate and not under the JAL plate, but if I had factory rivets
holding that VIN plate in place I'd go to some lengths to not touch them if at
all possible - they're only original once.

Try the gas tank support behind the truck panels.
This is usually never repainted.

Terry,

If all else fails, note the color code on the VIN plate and obtain a paint
chip sample of the original color from Junpin' Jan at (email redacted).
Apparently, he has accurately reproduced almost all of the original colors
and will sell you a small painted sample for what I think is a very
reasonable price. The following is a message that Jan sent to the list in
July:

Everyone,
I have most of the Alpine/Tiger paint codes matched to new formulas
now. If you are interested in acquiring a paint chip (4" diameter),
please send me a request for the color that you want. The price is $18
per chip, shipping included.
