The "Lost and Found" section of the January issue of Classic and Sports
Car, page 21, has a very rusty "1965 Tiger" that according to them has been
on the same lot in St. Petersburg for 15 years. The owner says he'll crush
it if no one buys it (50 bucks?). They don't give the name but they say
it's a used car lot and the picture shows what looks like an 8 foot white
tin fence, the lot is gravel and there are large trees behind it (probably
just described half the used car lots in St. Pete). It's sitting next to
what looks like a 260 Z. The car has front end damage (of course) and as
mentioned a deal of rust. Seems worth a look for somebody local.

Chris,
you are correct, the car was sold on EBay but I guess the sale didn't go
through.

If someone can give me more details, I'll send my brother-in-law to look at
it. They live in Palm Harbor, FL. I'd need the address, phone or dealer
name, (something, anything?). Thanks.

Isn't this the same Tiger which one of the listers checked out a few months
ago? I seem to remember the verdict being that there wasn't enough left to
work with to make it worthwhile...unless, of course, you live in the UK.

Hi Allan,
so we in the UK are the poor relatives when it comes to Tigers. Unlike
your sun bathed California cars which are considered rust buckets once
they get wet, we have plenty of practice in fixing rust, I replaced
pretty well all the bottom 18 inches of my first car!
In fact I guess the guy who dreamed up the Flintstones must have driven
and English Sunbeam with faulty brakes and decided to make use of the
holes in the floor.
I was outside last night at minus 2 centigrade trying to get the Alpine
blower working to melt the ice on the inside of the windshield!
On the Florida Tiger, like the six million dollar man - we can rebuild
it, we have the technology ( grinder, hammer and welder.....) but man
its rusty
>From the photos on EBay, it looked like the owner had driven it from the
UK to the US - perhaps it is an early development prototype for the Bond
Lotus Esprit!
I saw the Tiger on EBay when it went through for around $1300, the buyer
being a UK Sunbeam dealer. I guess the deal fell through ......
It looked rebuildable but was a lot of work or a potential Alger!
regards
Jeff
