At least 90% of all electrical problems with British cars are caused by
a bad ground (earth)! That is always the first thing to check. The
front lamps are notorious for this fault unless you have corrected it by
running a separate ground wire.

On the subject of white facial hair - more is better. It is a sign of
wisdom and adds a distinguished air to those who display it. Sort of
like silver-back gorillas! ;>winking smiley It is advisable, however, to pay
attention to the position of one's beard when messing about with British
electrics, as I have discovered that there is Lucas smoke stored in my
beard (probably a result of pretty near 50 years of close proximity to
British cars.)
