After a little clean up, it was clear that the casting said (Shelby
"CAL. 500", complete with including quote marks.

Stephen,

Shelby had a wheel manufacturing business in the 80's, when he was working
with Dodge. The Shelby Automoblies he manufactured came with Shelby wheels.
He also sold to the aftermarked and made a Panasport knock-off. I'm sure
this is where your wheels came from.
