Early NOS license plate illumination lamp, this is the braided cable type... may be too early for the sunbeams because of the braid (as opposed to moulded insulation)

You can find a near identical one, for a 5er. It was used in many cars of the period.

you are correct, my thought is that if someone was doing a resto.... the early braided insulation would be authentic... as opposed to the moulded.
