On the earlier cars 20W20 is the recommended oil (it is not easy to find
today). However, I think the reason 20W20 was recommended was because 20W40
and 20W50 didn't exist when the recommendations were written. The important
thing is to use motor oil because the transmission relies on "splash" for some
of the lubrication.
