Rear Disc Brakes on Ford 4 Bolt Axle

Some time back some people on the list were lusting after a rear disc brake
setup. Was Jim Ellis one of them? Anyway, I saw that a guy on the
Esslinger Bulletin Board is offering weld on brackets for $50. His E-mail
is (email redacted), and that is all I know about it. Just thought someone
may be interested.

Bill,
Funny you should bring this up as I have been spending some time
looking into this. Seems the Tiger owners have a conversion kit
available [$600] that uses Audi 100 rotors and Fiat 124 calipers, the
kit has all the details worked out is a bolt on and does not require a
proportioning valve, for Tigers any way. I am not sure if the ends of
the Tiger rear axles are the same as Alpine [do the backing plates
interchange?] so am not sure if this kit will cross over to Alpines, but
the bolt pattern is the same so the rotors should work. Which would
leave making up caliper brackets and some kind of emergency brake. A
line lock has been coming to mind to over come that obstacle, and a
friend with a new plasma cutter for whittling out the brackets, now the
only thing left is finding the time to actually do it.... Jim

The tiger uses a Dana 44, not a 9 inch ford.
Therefore ford parts wont be a part of the solution.

I have been in contact with the guy that is selling the weld on adaptors.
This is what I found:
The kit uses front brake parts from mid '80s Escorts, Tracers and Tempos
The bolt pattern has to be identical to the Ford 4 bolt
He runs them on circle track racing, does not need proportioning valve
He feels they can be adapted to the Alpine axle if the bolt circle is
correct, there is adequate clearance between the spring (there is) and the
backing plate and the axle bearing housing diameter is close to that of the
Ford.
Question- Is the Alpine bolt pattern identical to the Ford, or just close
enough for the aftermarket wheels?

The guys name is Bryan Wier, phone #406 748 4556.

He is a very friendly guy, seems to ship the brackets on phone order before
receiving payment and says returns are no problem if the brackets have not
been butchered.

Cost is $55, including shipping.
