Problem #1: My new 35 amp ammeter never indicates more than 8 amps(+-) even
when the lights, blower and electric fan are on.
Problem #2: In addition, when these are all on, my tach will oscillate
wildly and my fuel gauge and temp gauge will read low. Voltage at the
solenoid will be 14 vac engine running no accessories on dropping to 12.3
vac with the above accessories on. Does this indicate a poor connection
somewhere or a failing alternator (after market Nippon Denso).
In spit of all this, the engine always run well and the battery remains
fully charged.
All the best,
Vlad

Ammeters are wired into the circuit so they show only net charge/discharge.
The alternator could be putting out the full 35 amp charge, but with a 30
plus amp load, the ammeter would show only a amp or two charge going to the
battery.
I may be wrong here, but I think that an AC voltage reading would be
indicate AC voltage leak from the alternator into the DC system.

Bill,
Thanks for the info on the ammeter. As for the 14 vac I reefered to, that
should be 14vdc. I was thinking alternator and forgot all about the
integral rectifer.
Jan,
I have a new fuse block and the fuse contacts are clean and solid.
Also neglected to mention that I have the breakerless Petronix solid state
ignition and a Petronix Flame Thrower coil to which I added a 1.8 ohm
ballast resistor to meet the required 3 ohm resistance for a 4 cyl. engine.
All the best,
Vlad
