I have to laugh...the silence is deafening!!! I now know, due to the
lack of any response whatsoever, that my valuation of my SV was indeed
residing in La-La Land. The upside is that the decision not to sell my
car has been made for me. I am surprised, though, that no one had the
gumption to tell me that my car is not worth anything close to $11,000!!

Sometimes not saying a thing actually shouts it.
I guess it was an unanimous decision.
No, I don't mean that you car isn't worth that sum.
It's just that I find that most car enthusiasts would rather find a barn
fresh rust bucket bargain and spend 20+ grand and 5 years making it their own
bargain, for which they'll get no offers on if they decide to sell for what
its REALLY worth.
Enjoy your car, glad you're going to keep it.

Christopher,
I think the car is worth the price and more. I was just shocked that
you wanted to part with it!

I was shocked too. I'm happy to hear that you aren't going to part with it. Why don't you try to bring it to the invasion next summer!

I don't think you over priced it. I just can't buy an 11K car right now so
I said nothing.

I don't think you've overpriced it either, Chris. It looks like prices for
an unrestored rust-free car, running and plated, have crept into the $4000
to 6500 range. Your vehicle is in concours condition, has the desirable
mags and killer stereo, plus the performance mods to your engine and the OD
tranny. All backed up by the trophies from SUNI III. That easily merits
the higher ticket. The only thing you need to do is locate someone with the
desire to own a quality Alpine, the appreciation for what it takes to get it
into that kind of condition in terms of money, time and devotion, and the
available resources to actually make the transaction. I don't think it
would be too difficult to find that person, if you decide to go forward.

Hey Chris,
I don't think that you valued the car too high. As we all learn in Econ
101: "the value is whatever the market will bear", or "the value is
whatever a buyer to pay". Guessing from other marques, your Alpine
should be worth more that that, but Alpines do not seem to gather the
same interest.
The Alpine market is a niche market and floating a question to this
group may give you some insight from informed people, but is not likely
to put you into contact with a lot of people who:
a) are in the market for a Alpine (we see what, maybe one request per
month from someone looking for a car and usually posted by TJ Higgins,
meaning they don't view this site regularly).
b) have the money on hand to pay for one in really nice condition.
I know that you did not ask for advice or consul, but ....
you put a lot of time into your car (not counting the cash), AND
you seem to really enjoy and appreciate it. ..... do you REALY want to
sell it?

I don't think you overpriced it, but give the guys on the list a break. I
received the 'thinking of selling' message at 10:30 AM Monday, this
message at 8:30 PM Monday and read them at midnight Tuesday. I'd have to
mortgage my house to buy it, a divorce would probably come with it, but if
it had pointy fins......hmmm.
If I were you I'd keep it, but if not I'm sure it will go at your price,
just maybe not in 10 hours..

I paid your estimated value just to have my SIII body and chassis restored in
the UK, and it is definitely not concours condition in other respects.
So I'd say your valuation, if anything, is on the low side.
Unfortunately we all know that the true value of these historic motor cars is
not reflected in market prices.

Maybe I should try selling it in the UK, where apparently the true
value of a Classic is respected.
