Do you have the original size tires? If so go through your steering
mechanizm and check everything. Start with lubricant in your steering box
and work your way down to the steering linkage. Good luck TC

Check for lubricant in your steering box. They're always empty. :-)

Bob,
If your lower ball joints are dry, that will increase the steering effort. The same goes if your steering box is dry. Front end alignment, particularly caster plays a roll, especially if you are using wide tires. If you have removed the front crossmember from your car and then removed the aluminum wedges that space the crossmember from the framerails, is there any chance you reversed them when you reinstalled the suspension? I have disassembled a couple cars in the past and found the idler-units (the counterpart of the steering box, opposite side of the engine compartment) to be very, very tight: there is a zerk fitting on the side of it, ready to receive grease. Many years ago, Joe at Classic Sunbeam had a bushing and seal kit for the idler: perhaps Curt does now.
