OK, the time has come to finally bite the bullet, and swap the old dynamo out for an alternator.
I would not bother, as I find the water pump bearing lasts longer with a dynamo, as the load on it is less.
However, the dynamo is U/S, and I've just added an auxilliary electric push fan, to help cope with global warming, which worked like a treat on the Le Mans trip. The fan draws 10 Amps, so could not run all day, without the dynamo struggling to keep up.
Plus which I don't have a spare dynamo, but I do have a working alternator from an SV.
I have all the bits, including the bracket and the external diode pack, plus the wirning between the two components.
Now what I don't have is the wiring diagram for the SV, so haven't a clue which of the rat's nest of wires from the control box I need to retain, and where to connect to on the diode pack.
Anyone have an idiot's guide for this conversion?
Julian.

The following link gives a good overview of the swap. I did it this way an it works nicely. The only issue is the tensioner arm. I couldn't get the factory alternator arm to work. I had to fabricate one.
