I was driving down the highway today and discovered that my clutch
would not disengage as I approached a red light. I was fortunate to be
able to yank it out of gear, make a right hand turn on red, cram it back
in gear and keep the thing moving back to within a mile of home . I have
checked movement of the clutch slave and it moves about an inch with
each pump of the clutch pedal.
Any guesses as to what's going on? I've not replaced the clutch but
I did replace the throwout bearing a couple thousand miles ago.
I have a detailed manual but no experience with the workings of a
clutch.

I think I was a little off on the slave movement. It looks more like 1/4
inch of movement. How far should it travel?
Great way to kick off "Drive you british car week"!

I'd bet you're out of clutch fluid. Fill 'er up, bleed and if it then works
OK, check for leaks.

Thanks to all those answering my cry for help. I tried one more test
before deciding to pull the tranny. I removed the slave, bolted in a
harmonic balancer puller and used it to push the clutch release fork.
The fork depressed 3/4 inch and I still couldn't get in gear with the
engine running. So my afternoon will be spent under the car to see what
we can find. BTW, from what I could see through the bell housing fork
opening , the release bearing is in fine shape.
